Recommendations to keep your computer in good operating condition:

1.    Keep it updated with the latest Microsoft security patches and service packs,

2.    Install a software or hardware firewall. At the very least, use the firewall built-in to Windows XP service pack 2,

3.    Install an Anti-virus software and keep it updated. Personally I recommend Symantec / Norton software,

4.    Defragment the hard disk once or twice a month to keep the computer running at optimum speed.

5.    Keep inside of the computer clean from dust. this will prolong the life of the computer also.

6.    Backup your computer or server regularly. Frequency and method of backup depends on the size of your data,

        and how often your data changes. You can use a USB flash drive for small files, or USB Hard drive for full hard drive

        backups.

7.    Protect your computer from Power problems: use a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) on every computer that contains data.
